Foremost, Darren is a father, and husband, and that being said, Darren like a lot of people has had a varied journey in life. His wife, Nicky Poulin, and he started their first studio over 19 years ago, and have been in continuous operation since. With her guidance and pedigree of being taught in India, Darren began his practice of yoga and progressed to teaching and teacher trainings. In reflection, that’s 16 years of yoga practice and 14 teaching accumulating over 7,000 hours teaching. Time flies.
Currently, Darren and his wife own and operate the Ohana Yoga and Wellness Centre in Callander where they teach yoga, wellness, provide therapies and now train yoga teachers as an accredited CYA Gold school. In conjunction with this he is also a Natural Health Practitioner. His journey as a practitioner began some 18 years ago when he began to study the science of Kinesiology and, additionally, Eastern healing methods. This led him to refine his study of the body and understand how it relates to the world around us. Through this study he discovered the relationship between the Eastern meridians and Myofascial planes or connections in the body. The interrelationship between fascia and kinesiology connected Darren with one of the world’s experts in Myofascial Release, Walt Fritz. Through Walt he has developed a unique skill set for Myofascial Release that is the fusion of Barnes/Myers/Upledger and previous experience in Eastern hands on modalities.
Darren holds an advanced certifications and specializations in Myofascial Release Therapy, Canadian and US registrations in Specialized Kinesiology, Acupressure, Cupping, Shiatsu and the designation of Master in Reiki. The CHEK Institute has certified him as a HLC2 lifestyle coach bringing together advanced understanding of stress, nutrition, sleep patterns and exercise. Darren continues to learn, grow, teach and, through this, yoga is there.
