Music is the Seed of Life
Without music, mothers may allow their minds to focus on daily worries and duties. Most mothers would agree that they don’t have much quiet time, so silence only distracts them.
If music is a personal choice that often reflects one's personality, then perhaps yogic music may help guide people into a peaceful mind. Charging licencing fees to play music in a class defeats the purpose of self-expression and freedom of choice. Music is a gift to students, and therefore should not create negative implications for the instructor or business. What exactly is the purpose of music, if not for the pure joy of it? Sharing music for joy, laughter, and love is the greatest gift you can give. Furthermore, it seems unfair of SOCAN to charge a licencing fee, when the music is getting free advertisement through yoga classes. This in turn creates more buyers of that music! Students regularly approach instructors, after class, for a list of artists to purchase the music. I would, therefore, suggest that it is quite controversial that the yoga world is being charged fees for doing the music world a service.
In closing, I ask you this! When did our world begin to worry more about making an
extra buck, and less about the simple joys in life?
