By now, most of us know the benefits and positive influences that yoga has on our physical, emotional and mental states. By now, you've likely already heard that meditation, pranayama and other healing modalities which connect us to our body, mind and spirit have profound effects on our thoughts, emotions, responses and ultimately our peace and happiness. What remains elusive to many, however, is our understanding of the heart mind connection and how crucial it is for us to actualize self-love for the sake of life, breath, balance and healing.
Our hearts are at the center of our bodies and function on the principle of love. What is love then, we ask ourselves? Another elusive concept to some of us who have had our roots ripped from underneath us, our hearts broken by loss or a will turned to ashes and overshadowed by ego. Is love even real? Yes! The path to our healing is our mountain to climb and we are already more than equipped to embark on the journey. Understand that you must love yourself first because no amount of love from others is enough to fulfill what our spirit requires us to do for ourselves.
The heart of the matter, or function of our spirit is to forgive and to accept. You must first take the step to change your mind about whatever false and limiting beliefs you hold against yourself in order for you to have, feel, give, receive, speak, see and understand the experience of love. Love is our priority. Forgiveness and self-acceptance are at the center of our hearts and hold the key to our happiness. Until we realize this, we continue to struggle in our lives and tie ourselves, our value, worth and purpose to other people's judgment and our own. Our minds have been intrinsically conditioned to our detriment and have become preoccupied with appearances, illusion and gratification. Once these errors have been corrected in your mind, you will be released from your fears.
Love and fear are opposites; like true and false, reality and illusion, light and dark. In order to make love our priority we must remove the rock that is our fear and replace it with another. One, whose energy comes from our true nature within, sustained by earth and the universe, rather than from our minds. Balance between heart and mind can be found when we are aware that the powerful energy system contained in our bodies can allow the heart to beat freely and shine from within. The energy system, our chakras, can be healed and made whole again, interconnected, optimally balanced, efficiently fuelling our desires and pumping love and abundance into our lives.
Healing all parts of our energy system enhances the transformation of our hearts and thus enhances the healing effect on our entire being and the world. What we do for ourselves we do for everyone. What we don't do for ourselves we don't do for anyone and vice versa. If we are experiencing the resistance of a closed and unforgiving heart, we are cutting ourselves off from our very purpose and life itself. Our thoughts, like our bodies and spirit, are energy released and so they are not private, as we like to believe they are. What we pulsate into the universe via our thoughts is the life we create and attract for us all. The heart mind connection offers to us an awakening and opening to an unlimited supply of kindness and love
The yearning of our spirit, which has the right to claim peace and happiness for itself, requires practice, effort and discipline on our part. Love is the pinnacle of attainment of the spirit. Just as wisdom is achieved only after the path of morality and concentration are observed, so will love flourish so completely in our hearts and minds only after we reclaim our gifts, our rights and our selves. Once our will and attention are no longer required, once we understand our most basic and primal rights as a body, mind and spirit, will we begin to direct our goals to enlighten and illuminate the lives of others through passion and service.
